A VAHW Turned Technician
Born in 2033 BS in Lumle-04, Haijung, Kaski, Mr. Homnath Subedi passed the SLC in 2049 and the IA in 2055. After completing IA, he voluntarily served in a local primary school for seven years. He also started vegetable farming and cattle rearing during this period.
According to Mr. Subedi, his life and profession changed after receiving the VAHW training from AHTCS in 2066. He opened a veterinary shop in his village, Haijung, the very next day after completing training. He started curing the animals in his village and also the equines carrying goods from Nayapool to upper villages. He is still providing medical support to those equine owners.
After receiving the refresher training on Equine Behavior, Handling, Basic Medicine and Equine Welfare, it became more convenient for him to treat equines as he gained more knowledge about them, Subedi added. Similarly, the VAHW refresher training provided by District Livestock Service Office (DLSO), Kaski has been more beneficial for him in treating other animals as well. “I walk for seven to ten hours to get to the farmers as they complain about the problems with their animals”, Subedi says. He reaches almost all adjoining villages such as Ghorepani, Ghandruk, Landruk, Chhomrong, etc. to treat sick animals.
His income as a VAHW is much better than that as a teacher. He is easily managing all his household expenses. His monthly income is above 20,000, which is enough for him to send his son and daughter to boarding school. He also owns a veterinary store which gives him more income. He has also joined an 18-month JTA class this year with intention of provide additional services like Artificial Insemination (AI).
Always seen with a happy face, Subedi never hesitates to acknowledge AHTCS for whatever he is today. He would have been wasting his energy as a laborer in Gulf if he hadn’t received the VAHW training from AHTCS, he states. His reputation in his village and his successful life are all credited to AHTCS.
