Equine Health Camp & Community Engagement in Ulleri (Kaski) & Ghorepani (Myagdi)

Ghorepani is a village in Myagdi district in Dhaulagiri zone. The village lies within the Annapurna Conservation Area and lies approximately at an elevation of 2874m. Most mountain trekkers spend the night before the pre-dawn trek to the top of nearby Poon Hill (3210m) to watch the sunrise. Ghorepani is around 5 hours trek far from Ulleri.
Ulleri is a village in Kaski district which lies in the route of Ghorepani trek from Nayapool and is about 5 hours trek from Tikhedhunga.
Both these villages have around 170 of mules/horses for transportation of goods and tourist.
OBJECTIVES:
- Emergency treatment of equines.
- Collection of number of equines and owners data in the area.
- Microsession for raising awareness about care and prevention of equine diseases.
- Work Based Assessment of Local Health provider (LHP).
- Mobilize LHP to facilitate microsession.
On Sep.2 and Sep.3 /2017, a health camp was organized for the emergency treatment, general health checkup and raising awareness for care and prevention of equine diseases.
During the camp, micro-session for equine owners about different problems via poster presentation was done. Work Based Assessment (WBA) of LHP was done regarding his weakness and strengths.
After five hours walk up from Ulleri, AHTCS team reached Ghorepani on Sep 4. 2017. The team conducted two day health checkup, emergency treatment and micro-session in Ghorepani. Micro-session was facilitated by the LHP in Ghorepani.
