Dairy Development Project

AHTCS has been implementing this project with support from Surya Nepal Pvt Limited to assist dairy farmers in Santapur and Judibela VDCs in Rautahat district. The main activity of this project is to provide Artificial Insemination (Al) and other veterinary services to cows and buffaloes. Trained and locally available Al workers carry out Al services and other veterinary support services under the technical guidance and supervision of AHTCS veterinarian. Apart from providing Al services, need based trainings on Hygienic milk production, fodder and forage production, disease prevention and free animal health camps were also organized in project command areas.

 

Key Interventions and Impact

  • A total of 1259 animals (Santapur 794 and Judibela 465) are inseminated achieving 70% of the target 1800 animals.
  • 2 events of training programme on Hygienic milk production, and Fodder/forage production were implemented in Judibela.
  • 3 events of 1 day free Animal Health camp and door to door service were organized in Judibela and Santapur and a total of 1338 animals (cattle 429, buffalo 273 goats 597 and pig 39) of 281 farmers were benefitted.
  • 6 events of vaccination programme against Haemorrhagic septicaemia and Black quarters carried out and a total of 2272 animals (Santapur 1268 and Judibela 1004) of 809 farmers benefitted.
  • 1 event of 2 days exposure visit/study tour was organized for 40 farmers (male 24 and female 16) to interact with successful dairy farmers at Chitwan, Nawalparasi, and Palpa.
  • 1 event of A-V exhibition on hygienic milk production, nutrition of dairy animals, care and management of pregnant animals was conducted for 37 leader farmers of milk producers’ cooperatives (male 22 and female 15) from Santapur and Judibela.
