Equine Health Camps and Inauguration of Water Trough for Equines at Ghandruk Kaski

29 Jan 2017. AHTCS Hills Team visited Annapurna R.M., Kaski from 20 10 27 January, 2018. During the visit, the team organized free equine health camp at Tadapani, Chhomrong and Ghandruk. 51 equines owners brought their equines to the camps. All 230 equines were brought to the camps were de-wormed and some cases of wounds, eye problems, respiratory and gastro-intestinal diseases were also handled. Dr. Niran Adhikari led the AHTCS team which included technician Mr. Bimal Lamichhane and two LHPs, Mr. Hom Nath Subedi and Mr. Himal Gurung.

During the visit, inauguration of the water drinking trough for equines made by Ghandruk equine owners committee in partnership with Brooke UK and AHTCS Pokhara was also completed. The trough is constructed at Annapurna R.M. -11, Dhinklo, which lies in the route to Annapurna Base Camp which is the resting place for the goods carrying mules and also the trekkers. It takes 2 hours walk for the mules to reach Dhinklo from Kimrung Khola at base and there are no places for the mules to rest or drink water in between. Water was brought from 700 meters away to that place through pipeline. Najarman Gurung, a local social activist and Dr. Niran Adhikari from AHTCS jointly inaugurated the trough.

The health camps and the inauguration programs were arranged and facilitated by the chairperson of Ghandruk Equine Owners Committee Mr. Raj Bahadur Gurung. From inauguration of water trough to organizing health camps, BROOKE-AHTCS work was heavily welcomed by the locals. Participation and facilitation of the Committee and the LHPs in BROOKE-AHTCS activities has created the environment of working together for same objective of equine welfare.
